Church Development

This page has 11 church plants presented.  Each church plant is at a different stage of development.  God is working in Ecuador.  As you read this page pray for the church plant as they continue to grow and reach out to their area of influence.  The order presented are in progression as to the stage from fully developed to no witness at all.

1.  Chaupimolino

This church plant has a board to lead them; a small building in which to meet; a lay pastor who is fulfilling the pastoral responsibilities and in 2010 are adding on to the church for Sunday school rooms and bathrooms.  This church is located strategically near the new Quito international airport where thousands of people will be moving in during the next ten years.  Pray for the church leaders who are looking for an Ecuadorian pastor to lead them into this new decade of ministry.

2.  South Quito - Good Shepherd Church

This new church plant was started in 2005 as a result of a multiplication process in the church planting strategy in South Quito.  The first church in Quito sent out half of their congregation to another church plant in an area where there were no churches.  This multiplication developed into a new church call the Good Shepherd Church of Quito.  This church has a pastor, church board, full church ministry programs.  They lack property on which to build a church building for their services and ministry.  A rented facility is okay for some time, however now is the time to look for the lot in South Quito that God chooses.  Pastor Marco Cruz and his wife Marlene are working hard to serve this suburb of Quit

3.  Quito Airport - La Vergel

La Vergel is a very small community that will explode into a huge metropolis any day now.  The reason?  The new Quito international airport will be finished in August of 2010, bringing with it the influx of hundreds of businesses and thousands of people.  This new church is located at the main entrance of that new airport.  A strategic location for a fast growing church fellowship will reach many Ecuadorians for Jesus Christ.  This church has a board, Ecuadorian missionary pastor, but is looking for a piece of property on which to build their church.  Then they will be ready to build their first building.  Now is the time to act!  Pray that they will find property in this strategic area of Quito.

4.  Cayambe

The work in Cayambe was started by the pastor and his people from Quinche.  This is eion church and now are starting another church with help from the believers in Quinche who live an hour away.  This is an example of missions in Ecuador.  We pray that this will happen in each of our Berean churches.  Dave and Brenda Meyer, our daughter and son-in-law, are assisting this new church plant along with the Quinche church folks.  The Meyers moved there in March of 2007.  God has opened the doors of opportunity.  The president of the suburb was saved in December of 2007.  He is growing rapidly in his faith.  He desires to learn the Word as Dave disciples him.  A Japanese couple moved into Cayambe to work in flower production.  They were searching on the web for a church and found the Meyer's website and began attending.  They have been a blessing to the small body of believers.  Dave and Brenda with an Ecuadorian missionary, single lady, and two other team members are busy in the work of planting a solid, gospel preaching, Bible teaching church.  In 2010 the church will be starting membership and electing leaders.  The people are looking for a location where to build a church building.  They are meeting in this rented town building.  The city of Cayambe is located on the equator.

5.  Papallacta

The small town of Papallacta is located an hour from Quito in the beautiful Andes Mountains.  It lies at the base of a beautiful snow-capped volcano mountain called, Antisana.  That mountain with the snow keeps this community very chilly all year around.  However, if you would like to warm up, you go swimming in the many "hot tubs" fed by the hot springs that flow out of the ground.  The town is furnished with hot water from these hot springs and no house needs a hot water heater.  Isn't that great?  Hot water directly from the ground!  Cold water from the river!  HCJB radio station has their hydro-electric plant located in this town.  As a result of their witness this church was begun.  They have a building and a few people who attend.  What this church needs is an Ecuadorian pastor willing to pastor these people who are confused and ignorant of the Word of God.  Pray for a pastor to live there as a solid testimony and example to the people who mistrust others easily.

6.  South Quito - Argelia

Within this section of Quito live 800,000 people.  Enough people to evangelize?  There are two local churches already established in this area and the third, Argelia has begun in August of 2008.  How many more can be planted in this dense forest of houses and businesses?  Lynford and Sharon have ministered in this metropolitan area for ten years.  God is building His Church.  Will you pray that God would raise up workers for the white harvest in the Ecuadorian capital city of Quito.

7.  Chillanes

This small town located in a valley in the province of Bolivar, five hours South of Quito, has the potential of being the next church planted.  No evangelical church exists in this town.  Even though there are believers here, they have no church to attend nor teaching whereby they can grow.  Two missionary ladies have ministered faithfully for many years.  John and Cindy Owen have moved there to assist in the work.  Two Ecuadorian Bible institute students are praying, and trusting the Lord to determine His will for their lives as they consider this community for their ministry.  Pray that God would develop a thrilling Bible preaching church here in His time.  The key is faithfulness.

8.  La Borja

La Borja is a small community 3 hours East of Quito.  The Fellowship of churches has begun this church plant and will be continuing to develop it.  Borja has no gospel witness in the town.  This will be the first evangelical testimony and may be a problem with the Roman Catholic priest.  The jungle of Ecuador is near this community and so has some beautiful scenery, like this waterfalls near.  Pray that this community will receive the gospel and the church will grow as the missionaries work in this area.

9.  Intag

The large area of Northern Ecuador is called Intag.  In this area are many small towns without a gospel witness, like this one called Cuellage.  One of the Ecuadorian missionaries is going into this area to preach and evangelize every two weeks.  This type of ministry is effective to become acquainted with the people of the area.  Being in the rural part of Ecuador the tendency is to shun the newcomer and so getting an inroad is through relationships built over time.  The missionary in this area has lots of patience and so works well with the local people.  This will take time to do the church planting well, but God will bring the fruit in His time.

10.  North Quito - La Bota

The strategy for church planting in North Quito will begin as soon as there are missionaries ready to go into this concrete jungle.  It will not be easy, but the fruit is so very rewarding.  Will you go?  Will I go?  Will a church be built?  Will they hear of Christ?  Will it be everlastingly too late for some?  So the decision is ours.  We are the Church.  We have been given a commission.  We must obey or they will go into eternity without Christ.  The most important task in the whole world is the evangelization of the lost. Are you a part of this great and fruitful ministry?  Two mature couples are living in this area of Quito now and are ready to help start the church.  They need a church planter to guide them in their ministry.  Both are waiting on the Lord to open the doors for God to guide them in this new church plant.  One couple has asked for a home Bible study in their neighborhood.  Keep praying for laborers in the harvest fields.

11.  Conocoto

Conocoto is a suburb of Quito.  With a higher economic standard of living than most suburbs of Quito.  These people do not seem to need anything.  They have their Catholicism.  They have their houses.  What more could one give them?  The gospel crosses all barriers.  There are some churches in this suburb, however the number of inhabitants cry for a good gospel witness from the body of Christ.  The established and growing church in Tumbaco is responsible for this church plant.  The need is for a church planting missionary couple to begin ministering in this area.  Pray for the hearts of these people in their need of salvation.
